Custom Mellow

An art collector named Nick contacted to me some time a go to request a custom vinyl toy, I said yes without even to know what toy he wanted me to customize, actually also he wasn't sure by then, yet. A little later I received the Mellow figure designed by Christopher Lee. And an email from the same guy, he thought this figure would be a perfect canvas for my characters, so I did it and this is the result, I'm very pleased with the result and really like to work in 3D object.
Who knows? Maybe this is the beginning of a new line of vinyl toys :) Ha! Why not?

Thanks Nick for pushing me out in making this!

SHOWDOWN - One Show Interactive

This year the advertising competition One Show Interactive is going to wear mexican wrestler masks to show who is better in "lucha libre". As part of the One Show 2008 my very talented friends of Grupo W had developed this online tournament where all the ad agencies in the competition will fight between them, no matter the size of the agency they represent. I was invited to collaborate in this project with character development, I provided a couple of ideas for Art Direction but them built the rest, including all the great shots you'll find in the special movements during the fight.
Check out the ShowDown!

Check out also these funny videos they produced to promote the event and the game, I totally love the animations at the end :

Peluche

The last project I did over Curiosity Group was this music video for the single called Peluche (Plush) from the Boston-based band Static Of The Gods, I did the art direction, character design, overall illustrations and some animations for this piece. I have the chance to collaborate with some good friends in this project, Jamal Qutub who modeled the main character "Teddy Bear" in 3D and worked in most of the animation, including the band playing. And Brandon Schoessler, who did all the compositing, edition, background animations and particles.

Steve Klinetobe who is one of the partners of Curiosity Group came up with the original idea of the bear falling and my buddy Dale Basye who helped out to write an describe the scenes for the flashbacks. Basically the video shows the falling of this depressed peluche bear and is interrupted for little flashbacks of his miserable live, not everything is cute for these plush creatures. In addition we made sequences of the charactered band in performance on the bear's tummy during his fall. And you can guess the end, maybe is fatal or maybe is not.

Thanks a lot to Jen, Mike and Ben, the members of the band for trust in my work and give us the freedom to play with their great music.

I created a bunch of creatures that makes appearing n the background when the band is playing, unfortunately you can't really perceive them in movement really well. These are some of them:

SuiCycle

A look at what goes in, what goes out, and how everything we swallow gives the environment a case of indigestion. SuiCycle is a lively, multi-textured animated short with a darkly comic style at odds with the subject matter, Suicycle—intended to play as a never-ending loop— The piece was created specifically for the 2007 DesignPolitics exhibition in Santiago, Chile: a forum for "visual ideologies" comprised of the best issue-driven design work from around the globe.

All the illustrations were done as animated mask shapes in After Effects.
